The Pongola River is situated in the KwazuluNatal Northern part of the Republic of
South Africa. The wellknown hydraulic structure built on the river is the Pongolapoort
Dam. The river flows downstream the dam and reaches the Mozambique border.
i For water resources planning purpose in the catchment surrounding the dam,
you have been tasked to the carry out a onedimensional hydraulic flood
modellingsimulation on a river reach namely the Pongola River reach
starting from cross section as presented in Figure In this figure, points A
and are left and right bank stations of the main channel. Cross section is
the lower section ie the most downstream point in the reach considered The
incremental distances along the reach from cross section are given in Table
For the cross sections presented in this table, the corresponding points to
and will be used respectively for left and right bank stations of the main
channel. Consecutive crosssections in the reach are m apart. The
