1)As a management negotiator, I would not be willing to offer the bargaining Unit members a monetary signing bonus to approve a proposed contract settlement. Firstly, I think that goes against the Good Faith bargaining because it doesn't show a sincere and honest intent to reach an agreement; It shows that the company feels that money can buy its way out of fixing employee grievances. Secondly, it is not permitted for a management negotiator to bypass the union representatives and deal directly with the members; however, If the management negotiator wants to add bonuses into the collective bargaining proposal, they should have. Wage changes without consulting the union would be committing a per se violation.
2) As a management negotiator, I would be willing to offer bargaining unit members a monetary signing bonus if they agreed to approve proposed contract settlement terms. The size of the company was not provided so it is somewhat difficult to put a final number on the table. I will assume the company consist of approximate one thousand employees, the signing bonus that I would recommend for each employee would between $2500-5000, this would depend on the profitability of the company. The signing bonus, may also increase base on the tenure of the employees with the company. The company is emerging from a recession and had to take steps as a result of the recession which impacted the employees. Offering the signing bonus would be a great way to re-establish the relationship with the employees, considering that you are unable to provide them with the assurance that their job with be safe in the future
