provide short response to this post. Conjunctivitis can be caused by a bacteria or a virus and it is more common known as pink eye. Bacterial conjunctivitis is caused by bacteria like Moraxell Catarrhalis, Staphylococcus, Haemophilus and etc (McCance & Huether, 2014, pg. 497). The eyelids and eyelashes could be stuck to each other and there is no itching. It can be treated with topical ointment (McCance & Huether, 2014, pg. 497). While viral conjunctivitis is caused by a virus and can cause edema, redness, and small red/purple dots in the conjunctiva (McCance & Huether, 2014, pg. 497). Antihistamines and putting an ice pack on the effected area (McCance & Huether, 2014, pg. 497). According to John Hopkins Medicine (n.d.) antibiotic is used to treat bacterial infection but it will not be effective on viral infection and should no be used for it. Virus requires a hosts to survive unlike bacteria (Cherney, 2023). Viral infection can be treated with antiviral medication and vaccine will also help prevent it (Cherney, 2023). Typically for viral infection the treatments focuses on treating the clinical manifestation (Cherney, 2023). Although antibiotic can be used for bacterial infection antibiotic resistance can occur when the medication is not effective anymore in because the bacteria has evolve (Cherney, 2023). It is important to teach patient during their treatment to take the entire course of the antibiotic even if the symptoms are gone (Cherney, 2023)
