Dr. and Classmates,

This class gave a lot of concepts that I had no idea took place in program management. I can see how important the concepts tie all together to make a Program Manager successful in managing projects. Chapter 2 was enlightening with the complexity theory, chaos theory, and butterfly effect. Thinking about these concepts, I did not understand how big of an impact it has because when something small goes wrong, it can create issues. Chapters 4 & 5 talking about the leadership concept was another enlightening concept of program management. These chapters brought out the history of leadership and how people thought that people were just born with the leadership trait back in the day. The chapters also talked about how program managers can use this concept to personally and professionally better people. Chapter 8 & 9 were two concepts that made a big difference and communication and software use within program management. Communication is paramount in personal and professional settings because, as a program manager, you might have people who do not work in your location; they might be in a different time zone. Program managers need to make sure they have good communication and ensure everyone is on the same page with the communication. You might have a person on your team with different cultural backgrounds who will not understand some of the communication from time to time. The other concept is picking out the best or most helpful software for your project. Program Managers might have more complex projects that require different software to be used to ensure it will work for the project. Program Managers need to make sure that all team members understand the software and, if not, should provide further instruction on it.

For the most part, most of AMU's classes meet the mission station of the University. There have been some classes that I have attended where it was cut and dry, which did not provide enough engagement with the rest of the class. This course has been one of the many exciting courses I have taken with the University. I like that last discussion question because it made us use all of the knowledge that we have gained to select our project team. Having exercises like this brings out the students' creativity and gets us to think outside the box. I also enjoy when the professors keep concepts interesting by asking questions that they might not have thought about in their original post.
