Purpose

The team project is designed to apply your skills in information systems to real organizations as the integrative capstone project for this course, and enables you to critically analyze competitive advantage opportunities and threats as they relate to information systems. You have two (2) approaches to this project, as a team. They are equivalent in the amount of effort required, but differ in their emphasis.

Approach 2: Focus on an Incumbent (Traditional) Organization

Many traditional, or incumbent, organizations are being challenged by organizations that use information systems effectively. If you choose this option, youll want to choose an organization that is struggling against an organization that uses information systems effectively. Again, youll have better luck choosing organizations with transparent information (e.g., strategy, operations, and IT management plans or other kinds of reporting). Your paper and presentation will focus on the incumbent, and how the incumbent can attain competitive advantage with respect to its competitor.
