Complete the ULS component of flexural design for the critical section (i.e., where moments are greatest) in the cantilever beam illustrated in the following figure. Without calculations, where will the rebars be placed for such a beam?
Cover: governed by requirements in Table 17 in CSA A23.3:24
Concrete: compressive strength of 40 MPa to satisfy durability requirements. Concrete is normal density \(\left(24\mathrm{kN}/\mathrm{m}^{3}\right)\) with a maximum aggregate size of 19 mm .
Reinforcement: Grade 400 steel \(\left(f_{y}=400\mathrm{MPa}, E_{s}=200\mathrm{GPa}\right)\). For constructability, the largest available bars for this beam are 30 M . Assume stirrups are 10 M .
Other constraints and information:
- Remember to account for beam self-weight.
- You are not required to check deflections if the beam satisfies conditions of Table 9.2 of CSA A23.3:24.
- You do not need to design for shear as part of this question.
Specified live load: \(11\mathrm{kN}/\mathrm{m}\)
Sunerimoosed Dead Load: \(6\mathrm{kN}/\mathrm{m}\)
