Q-Sort Exercise
Our company has six projects. We don't have the resources to complete all of the projects at one time. We are going to use the Q-sort method to prioritize our projects so we can accomplish the work over a period of time. Our company was recently notified that we failed an EPA inspection on our air filtration system. We discovered that the system is irreparable so we must replace it If we do not meet the deadline the EPA set, our company could face major fines or worse it could be shut down indefinitelyln addition, we were recently notified of a change in city ordinance requiring all businesses within the city limits to have sidewalks We were told that if we do not have sidewalks in place with 8 weeks we will be fined.
Our CEO just came back from a technology conference in Las Vegas. He was so excited to come back and tell us that he has placed a priority on solar panel installation. While the solar panels are not a necessity the boss wants them and as he put it "the sooner the better!'
We have always wanted a lunch area for all workers so they can go outside and enjoy their lunch break under the beautiful blue skies. When our workers that smoke found out that we may install an outside lunch are they requested a smoking area as well.We have employees that have been complaining about the roughness of the surface in the employee parking area. We decided to inspect the parking lot and found several potholes. In this scenario we have discovered several projects. We know that we have limited resources so we need to prioritize the projects based on categories. We can do this using a q-sort methodology.
The projects that we identified are as follows:
Sidewalks
Smoking ares for workers
Smoking Area
Resurface
Parking Lot
Air Filtration System
Resurfacing the parking lot
Air filtration system
Solar panels
Lunch area for workers
Sort the six project cards into two project piles - High Priority and Low Priority
Divide the High Priority Projects into High Priority and Medium Priority Projects
Divide the Low Priority Projects into Medium Priority and Low Priority Projects
Note: You should have three piles now Low, Medium and High Priority Projects
4. Divide the High Priority pile into Highest Priority and High Priority projects.
5. Divide the Low Priority Pile into the Low Priority and Lowest Priority Piles.
If possible could you draw the diagram out with the answer in the correct bubble. Thankyou.
