Module One obligation

Youll set up a spreadsheet for this obligation to track labor costs for the scenario below. This obligation will give you practice in setting up a basic spreadsheet with calculations. Youll also practice linking that data to another tab (worksheet). As you learn more about spreadsheet functionality, youll build on this obligation in future modules.

Directions

First, produce an Excel spreadsheet and name the document Labor Hours. Label the first tab of the record Data. Then complete the following steps:

In the Data tab, create a table with the following information:

Employees names

Each employee's hourly rate

The number of hours per day for five days for each employee

Use basic formulas to calculate the following:

The total number of hours each employee worked for five days.

The labor cost for each employee

The total labor cost for the project

In that same document (workbook), set up a separate tab labeled Data Link. In this tab, set up a blank table and fill the table by linking the cells to the data from the table you created in the Data tab.

You might be tempted to copy and paste the table and formulas from the Data tab for this part of the mission. However, you must learn to link data from one account to another. In the real world, you could have a spreadsheet with multiple tables on multiple tabs pulling from the same data set. You'll have to update every table if you copy data instead of linking it. However, if you connect the data, all the tables will automatically update if any data changes.

Hint: On your separate worksheet, click on any cell importing data. You'll see the name of the original worksheet (the name on the tab) followed by an exclamation point before the cells are listedfor example, sheet1!A2.

Scenario

You are looking at labor costs for a construction project using eight employees:

The employees' names are Smith, Rodriquez, Daniel, Eli, Lee, Kim, Buster, and Green.

Each employee worked eight hours a day for five days.

The employees' wages per hour are as follows:

Smith: $8.95

Rodriguez: $11

Daniel: $14

Eli: $16

Lee: $19

Kim: $20

Buster: $25

Green: $40

Specifically, it would be best if you addressed the following rubric criteria:

Set up the spreadsheet with all the needed data from the scenario given.

Use formulas to perform correct calculations.

Link all the data correctly from one spreadsheet to another.
