Universal column S275 sections, simply connected through their centroids, are used for the truss top chord shown in Figure Q1, with the sections orientated as shown in the Section a-a of Figure Q1. The maximum compression force in the top chord as a result of the factored design loading is 2200kN. Check the suitability of a 254254 UKC132 member in compression for this top chord, performing all necessary checks (with the exception of deflection and torsional flexural buckling, which is not required for a UKC connected through its centroid). Note that out of plane lateral support is provided only at loading and support nodes. See end of paper for equations to assist in design.
