You liked working in the food industry,and when the graduated,you accepted a position with FreshCo as a management trainee. There years have passed, and you have gained experience in the grocery store industry and in operating a large supermarket.Several months ago, you received a promotion to a line manager position, that is the post of store manager at one of the chains locations.
One of the thing you have liked about FreshCo is that it gives store managers a great deal of authority in running their stores. The company provides very general guidelines to its managers, but the final say is on the line managers. This means the top management is concerned with profit making, but how store get there is up to the line managers. The store employs 700 people, although except reporting to you : an assistant managers; and week. There are six people reporting to you : an assistant manager ; a weekend manager; and grocery, produce , meat and bakery managers. The only highly skilled jobs belong to the butchers, who have strict training and regulatory guidelines. Other less skilled jobs include cashier, self stocker, maintenance worker, and grocery bagger.
Currently, FreshCo enjoys a steady steam of customers as it is the only store within 10KM radius in this neighbourhood. Besides the grocery chain have managed this marketing zone-the grocery stores well by having an effective plan on how to lead customers to buy more whenever they are in the store. It started with the layout. Customers can find sweet treats and magazine at the checkout counter. This is to encourage some last minute purchase while waiting to pay. The trick works well with children, who have the pester power to convince their parents to buy the candy. There are also other strategies thats are already adopted by the store such as where certain items are placed and free samples.
