The local economy is undermined by widespread subsistence production in all sectors. However, great potential exists in: inland and open sea fishing; crop and animal production; mining of gold, iron ore and diamonds reserves; hunting of wild animals and birds; scenic beauty and wildlife; and harvesting of wild herbs, fruit, honey and valuable natural forest hardwood timbers.
