Thomas is the director of Treats gift shop in TaiKoo Shing Shopping Plaza.

Iris is the assistant manager, who has worked at Treats for three years. Last Saturday afternoon, as she was restocking the shelves, Iris saw her friend Kim walk past. Without thinking, she ran out of the store, with a teddy bear (HK$1,000) in her hands, to say hello. Roy, who also works in the shop, reported her to Thomas, saying that he saw Iris hide the teddy bear under her coat and then give it to Kim.

That afternoon, Thomas asked Iris to come into his office and told her what Roy had said. Iris denied the allegations, stating that she did have a teddy bear, however, it was not concealed and she brought it back into the shop. Iris asked Thomas to check the CCTV cameras if he didnt believe her. However, Thomas did not bother to do so.

Later that day, Thomas wrote a letter to Iris, notifying her of his decision to dismiss her for stealing the teddy bear. Thomas dismissed Iris without any notice of termination and compensation.
