This morning, the Managing Director, Mr Saleh Ariffin did his first annual performance review with the Head of Operation, Mr Le Thanh Tung. Mr Le is an expatriate from Vietnam who is on a three-year assignment to lead and manage the operations in Malaysia. During the appraisal:

Mr Le, I am not happy with your performance. Its been almost a year and I see you still have a difficult time adjusting. Your department has a shocking record on attendance, your accident rate is disgraceful and customer complaints about the quality of our services are increasing. Dont get me started on the delay complaints from the customers. Plus, I hear your son is getting into trouble at school. You are going to have to get it together or you might be repatriated back to Vietnam. You should appreciate your opportunity here. Its a huge career leap for you, claimed Mr Saleh.

Mr Le stood up and shouted, How dare you criticize my work. You are always out playing golf or lunch. It has been so difficult to have a meeting with you. And yes, this is not my home. You expect me to just blend in easily? Also, theres nothing wrong with my staffs attendance. Why dont you check out Marketing? Their records are the worst, and they think

theyre the only department that matters. Plus, there wouldnt be so many accidents if you had bought the machine guards which I recommended. Also, leave my son out of this, you have no business chipping in your nose in my personal life.

The appraisal ended with Mr Le feeling angry and frustrated, and Mr Salehs level of dissatisfaction towards Mr Le deteriorates.
