Question 2 SMEs are an integral part of the urban economic landscape as they provide employment opportunities, promote local economic development and innovation, and reduce poverty. Nevertheless, SMEs in urban markets face a lot of challenges. Specific barriers and market failures may prevent them from accessing strategic resources, including finance, management capacity and skills, and knowledge networks. As the government understands that threats to SMEs are threats to the economy and society, specific policy measures should be in placed to support these SMEs so that they can be competitive, increase their business capacity and consequently boost the nation's economic growth. Required: A) Discuss any two (2) relevant supply-side policies that government could implement to foster the development of the urban market SMEs. B) In your opinion, discuss how the banking sector can help the SMEs to grow more rapidly.
