Question 3 (25 marks) Jack was appointed the project manager for a new mobile app development project for iOS system. He had worked in the company for over 5 years and had rich experience in app development. However, this was the first time he took the role of project manager. The project did not go smoothly and finally ended 4 months later than the original deadline. Moreover, the project failed to satisfy the client because the developed app had many errors and was unable to be used in the latest version of iOS system. His project team had 3 other major members as follows: Becky had strong background in computer coding. However, due to family reason, she had to ask for leave quite often and thus failed to complete her tasks on time. Jeff was a fresh graduate and had limited experience in developing apps. As requested by the company, he had to attend the training courses for new recruits at the same time, which was very time consuming. Even if he worked hard, without experience and the help from seniors, the deliverables submitted by him sometimes were problematic. Catherine was an excellent employee with rich experience. She was mainly responsible for app interface design and user experience testing. She completed the design task shortly after the project started. However, due to the delay and problematic work of Becky and Jeff, Catherine failed to detect the incompatibility problem of the developed app with the iOS system. Jack had told Becky that it was fine to ask for leave but had to finish the tasks on time. Becky promised that she would work overtime to complete the tasks. Jack also had reminded Jeff to consult Catherine in case of problems, but Jeff said he had approached Catherine many times but in vain because she was not in office.
