$($a$)$ Determine the following for the joint shown in Figure $2($i$),$ assuming the bolts are $3/4-$in$.$ diameter and the angle and plate is ASTM A$36.$

a$.$ Tensile capacity of the angle in part $($i$),$ and

b$.$ Required gusset plate thickness to develop the tensile capacity of the angle shown in part a$.$

$($b$)$ Determine the maximum factored tensile force that can be applied in part $($b$)$ based on the following:

$($i$)$ Capacity of the angle in tension only

$($ii$)$ Capacity of the angle in block shear $($see failure diagram in part b$).$ The angle is ASTM A$572$ Grade $50$
