A$.$ Mr$.$ Mulaudzi is a lecturer inthe department of mathematicaland computational sciences

at the university of Venda. One of the modules he taught last semester was professional

Issues in computing technology. Part of the module assessment is a group presentation

by students. These groups consist of $4$ to $5$ students who need to work together though

out the semester and especially, during presentations. During the semester

presentations, members of group $14$ missed their chance to present and hereby as a

immediate consequence, a zero $(0)$ mark was assigned as their presentation mark. In the

spirit of fairness, Mr$.$ Mulaudzi instituted an appeal process whereby group $14$ had to write

a formal letter of appeal to him, comprehensively explaining why they need to be givena

second chance. This process enabled group $14$ to later present their work.

Mr$.$ Mudau is a lecturer in the biochemistry department who implemented a similar

appeal process for his students during his class presentation and assessment. Some of

the students were not happy with the process and decided to escalate to the

biochemistry department HOD. The biochemistry department HOD ruled that Mr$.$ Mudau

should not follow the process but the should appeal via the department committee who

will decide if indeed the students qualify for another shot at presenting their work.
