You have tried to meet with Timothy for the past week. You need to begin initial counseling with him regarding some performance issues before pursuing progressive discipline. Timothy does not know the precise purpose for the meeting, though he may suspect the reason based on recent interactions you have had with him. Each time you have tried to schedule a meeting, he has given an excuse as to why he can't meet and has then rescheduled with you. This last time, just when you thought the meeting would occur, Timothy came into your office and claimed that he was feeling ill and needed to go home immediately. The next morning, he called in sick and said he was going to see a doctor.
