The above diagram shows a two loop water distribution network (WDN) of a town. The pipe lengths are shown in the diagram, the units being metres. The diameter of all pipes is 300mm. All pipes have a Hazen Williams constant of 120. All nodes in the WDN are at the same elevation above datum. The base demands at the nodes are in litres per second. An initial guess of the directions of flow is indicated on the diagram.
(a)(i) Write down your national identity(ID) number. (ii) Use the first two numbers of your ID number as the first guess estimate of the flow in the pipe AB. Provide the guess estimates of flows in the rest of the pipes for the purpose of performing a Hardy Cross Procedure(HCP).[10 Marks]
