Question Please read the case study below then critically discuss the role of motivation in the work place! Use theories to elucidate your arguments! Case Study Introduction Work motivation is a set of energetic forces that originates both within as well as beyond an individual's being, to initiate work related behavior and to determine its form, direction, intensity and duration. Briefly, motivation is the effort a person is willing to devote to a task. There are many theories regarding motivation, ranging from Maslow's Hierarchy of needs theory, Two Factors' Theory to Expectations' Theory. Motivation is a key part of the work place increasing satisfaction, performance and productivity, plus many other benefits. Case Study George is a management consultant for the firm ABS consulting in his first job after completing his MBA. Only having been an employee for 3 months, George is already considering resignation, due to an undesirable workplace. George accepted this job with clear reasons-a work life balance, the freedom to be creative and having supportive and collaborative colleagues. George took the job at ABC over other offers due to perceived value congruence, desirable workplace, and the promise of a 10% pay increase after 3 months by the HR director. Janet - George's area manager - and Daniel - George's project manager - work with him on a project. Through this project both colleagues make George feel inadequate, alienating him in the brainstorming meetings, finally tearing his first client brief to shreds. The lack of recognition and shortcomings of all reasons George was looking forward to, explain his gradually diminished motivation. George's review occurs. He isn't granted the 10% bonus as promised, leading him to resignation. The overarching issue that has pushed George to feel it is now necessary for him to resign is his lack of motivation at work due to an absence of recognition and feedback
