INSTRUCTIONS
Each student needs to find one online news article that discusses current immigration issues in Canada. The article needs to have been published in Canada within the twenty-four months prior to completing the assignment. The article should be a news article written by a journalist for publication in newspapers or magazine websites (Globe & Mail, Toronto Star, et cetera). Write a report consisting of three parts between 550-600 words:
I. Overview:
a. In your own words, state the main immigration issues discussed in the article.
b. Provide a citation for the article, indicate the section of the newspaper or news website in which it was published, and list the sources of information named in the article, if any.
c. Indicate people, organizations, and reports mentioned in the article and if the writer quoted sources of information for the article.
II. Summary and analysis of the article:
a. Outline, present and analyze the issues addressed in the article.
b. Address the issues that are considered important or not so important, or issues that have not been addressed and could/should have been addressed.
c. How do you think the sources cited in the article might have influenced the perspective of the writer in their presentation of the issue? Does the section of the newspaper in which the article was published provide clues about the audience that the writer might have targeted? Do you see a solution to the issues addressed in the article?
III. Write at least two questions that were prompted by reading the article.
