Rationale This assignment will give you an opportunity to apply a bad news buffer and an indirect approach to a clear and effective negative news message response.

Course Learning Outcomes Organize writing to be effective following a direct pattern of writing Build trust and credibility through word choice, tone, grammar, and mechanics Produce informative, persuasive and routine business documents Produce succinct, clear, and reader focused email messages following a pattern Pre-Task Assume that you are the Vice President, Business Development Samuel Vulli, for your Manufacturing company Canadian Plastic Plus. You have received an email from Sasha Gupta, a Product Manager within your company. She is responsible for new product development in your plumbing product line. She reports directly to you. Sasha has emailed you with a proposal request to attend a tradeshow to exhibit her new Grease Interceptor plumbing product. The product is designed for restaurant use to collect grease before it enters the sewer system. You have a good relationship with Sasha, and she is an excellent employee who is always eager to find new ways to improve the customer experience, the user experience, and increase profits. However, you cannot approve this proposal for the following reasons: The tradeshow conflicts with another tradeshow the company is attending, and the booth will be in use. The tradeshow will cost over $20,000 USD to exhibit, travel, and stay. This was not budgeted in the current year. The tradeshow is not one that is dedicated to restaurant owners so it will not generate as much traffic or interest in this specific product. Directions After reading the attached action request letter, write a tactful 'Negative News' letter replying to Sasha Gupta denying her proposal. You may use any of the information above to explain your denial or any other explanation that would seem reasonable and meaningful in this situation. Include a suggestion or recommendation that would be suitable for the situation.

Reminders Write the letter in Email format as discussed in the learning. Write your response individually and take your time. There are NO outside sources required or permitted for this assignment besides your course material. Be sure your response follows an indirect approach within your email pattern (opening, body, closing) using the negative news strategies learned including a new subject line. Include a cover page. (found in APA at Conestoga) Length Each response should be approximately one page in length, including your email template at the top and signature/sign off at the bottom. Remember, theres no word count in business this is just a guideline.

To: Samuel Vulli, (Vice President, Business Development) From: Sasha Gupta (Product Manager) Date: July 23, 2022 Subject: Tradeshow Proposal

Dear Samuel:

I have been actively looking for ways to promote our new grease interceptor. I have found a tradeshow that may work for the product and would like to get approval to attend the show.

The tradeshow details are as follows:

PHCC Connect show Location: Kansas City, MO. Dates: October 22-24, 2022 (3-day show) Cost: $16,500 USD As you know the market for grease interceptors in the Mid-West US is very lucrative and there is great potential for our product to gain market share and become profitable quickly.

The deadline for registration is fast approaching in mid August, I would like to register soon so that we can secure a good location for our booth. Please let me know if I may proceed with registration.

Thank you.
