A continuous beam with a rectangular cross section is shown in Figure 1. The beam is 500 deep and 250mm wide. No finishes are applied on the beam.
1.1 Calculate the ultimate design load on the beam.
1.2 Calculate the moments (Ignore moment redistribution) and shear values at the critical sections of the beam in the case where the ultimate load covers the entire length of the beam.
1.3 Design the first internal support of the continuous beam for flexure.
1.4 Check the first internal support of the continuous beam for shear.
1.5 Check the near centre of end span of the continuous beam for deflection. (8)
Take fcu=30MPa,fy=450MPa, cover =30mm, live load =20kNm. Use Y10 stirrups and Y20 main reinforcement.
