Diversification is defined as "growing outside a company's current industry category. The key word in that definition is growth. Many companies implement their ideas of diversification with good intentions but some realize the truth in the old saying, "If it aint broke don't fix it." Massive companies like Molson Coors have had disastrous results when trying to diversify. Coors tried coming out with bottled water but it confused everyone by thinking there was alcohol in it. The product was eventually discontinued and the company has not tried anything like that since. Most diversification ideas in companies are expensive failures because now, labor and materials have to go to a new section of the company without damaging the original product. Additionally, people have to like what the new product is, thats to bottom line. Do you think that these massive companies should stick with their current product foundation or try and create a new product line?
