Read response and state your thoughts.

Once when I was working in the hospital setting, I had a patient whose husband came in and he brought his sister who has a very difficult time speaking and had some disabilities. He was extremely mean to her verbally and a little bit of physical abuse I seen. I also noticed the tense behavior from his wife when he showed up. I could tell the sister was used to this and I felt that the way she looked at me, she was trying to tell me. I think this could guide my intervention considering behaviors and thoughts can affect our thoughts and emotions. I felt that his thoughts on his sister, based on the comments he made about her having "fetal alcohol syndrome," were leading to his abusive thoughts and emotions. His behavior was aggressive which in turn affected his emotions and thoughts as well. I believe it is important for us to know CBT since it is one of the biggest models that can be applied to many situations. I believe that CBT would be good for this client because he could be experiencing stress and not knowing how to cope considering he is raising her now that their parents have passed away. I think this could help with his anxiety and anger. If it is not anxiety or stress, he could potentially have a mental health issue and I could also help him with CBT if it was that. Overall, focusing on his anger is important and I think he could benefit from the CBT. I believe that the patient, the husband, and the sister could all benefit from CBT in this situation as well. I think that the sister needs some support as I can imagine she suffers from PTSD, anxiety, and stress, even if she couldn't verbally say it well.
