Raj Verma, a fresh MBA from Prestige Business School, was recruited bya well-known company Rogers Ltd, which had come to the institute at Mumbai for campus recruitment for the first time. The company's CEO, Kripal Singh had heard of the institute's course on business ethics and was keen to get a brand younger manager who would stand by ethics. Raj had expected to start his career with the glamorous task of preparing marketing strategies. Instead, he was thrown into the field competing with "hard core crooks", as he called them, trying to sell them company's beverages. He was given a tough target for the first year when he was desperately trying to inch across, he met his immediate boss Arjun Khanna, an old timer with the company, who told him that he could give him a tip that would enable him to cross the magic figure, provided Raj paid him Rupees 50,000. This was 50 percent of performance pay Raj would get if he could achieve the annual target.
