Spring Breaks R Us (SBRU) is an online travel service that books spring break trips to resorts for college students. Students have booked spring break trips for decades, but changes in technology have transformed the travel business in recent years. SBRU moved away from having campus reps with posted fliers and moved to the Web early on. The basic idea is to get a group of students to book a room at a resort for one of the traditional spring break weeks. SBRU contracts with dozens of resorts in key spring break destinations in Florida, Texas, the Caribbean, and Mexico. Its Web site, called SBRU Online Trip Booking System, shows information on each resort and includes prices, available rooms, and special features. The resorts also need to know about their bookings for each week, the room types that are booked, and so forth. Before the spring break booking season starts, they need to update information on their resorts, including prices and special features. Resorts need to be paid by SBRU for the bookings and they need to be able to report and collect for damages caused by spring-breakers during the stay.

Students can use the online booking system to research and book a room. If the reservation is made for an individual student, the student needs to have an account. After logging in, the student specifies the arrival date and the number of nights of the stay. The system then calculates the total amount and indicate deposits to be paid for the reservation. After paying the deposits, the student is given a reservation number. One month before the arrival date, the student will receive a notification that contains a link through which payment of the remaining amount is made. If the student fails to pay the remaining balance two weeks before the arrival date, the reservation will be cancelled.

One popular SBRU service is to allow students to make room reservations as a group. To do so, all group members shall have an account with the online booking system. Then one member of the group could create a group. Once a group is created, any group member could make a reservation for the group. What needs to be done is to indicate the arrival date and the departure date. Given the size of the group, the system will generate room recommendations (e.g., a room with three beds, two rooms with two queen sized beds). The member can choose one of the recommended options, and proceed with paying the deposits. Same as individual reservations, one month before the arrival date, the student who has made a reservation on behalf of the group will receive a notification that contains a link through which payment of the remaining amount is made. If the student fails to pay the remaining balance two weeks before the arrival date, the reservation will be cancelled.

Based on SBRU policies, a reservation can be cancelled without penalty one month before the arrival date. If a cancellation is made within the month of the arrival date, the deposits will not be refunded.

A reservation can be changed up to two weeks before the arrival date. If a reservation needs to be changed due to the change in the group size, the student whove made the group reservation can first choose to edit the reservation, and then indicate to update group size. In doing so, members are either added or dropped. With the updated size confirmed, the system updates recommendations, the student then proceeds to complete the reservation process.
