PERFORMANCE IMPROVEMENT: DOES ONE SIZE FIT ALL?
Ms. Shakira Pillay is the newly appointed HR generalist in one of the leading grocery stores in the country. She goes through the performance management files of the organisation and she is puzzled to see how employees in many sections of the stores underperform. She decides to write a memo to the top management of the store in which she states that she has made arrangements with the top three leading universities in South Africa to register all employees for a qualification in retail management. To her understanding, each employees performance will improve if they possess such a qualification. In her memo, she requests management to authorise funds for this big training initiative that will lead to all employees in this store possessing formal qualifications in retail.
