Read the following scenario then create (1) a Vision statement and (2) a Mission statement for the organization.
The Pacific View Golf Club (PVGC) is a private, member-owned golf and country club. The Club opened in 1960 and is located in a small oceanside community in northern California approximately 60 minutes north of San Francisco. The community is relatively affluent because of its proximity to San Francisco and its oceanside location. The club operated in the traditions of old school country clubs; men are considered members and wives are considered associates. Saturday morning tee times are reserved for men only. The club offers golf, tennis, beach access to the ocean, and a dining room. For many years the PVGC enjoyed a wait list for membership in the Club. The recession of 2008 and the subsequent demise of Tiger Woods as the premier golfer in the world caused the PVGC to lose members, as was the case for other private clubs. By 2018 the membership at the PVGC had decreased by over 50%. Poor management strategies, poor food quality and service in the dining room, the lack of a PGA professional and competition from the nearby famed Pebble Beach golf course brought the Club to the brink of bankruptcy. The General Manager was perceived as an autocratic manager with poor communication skills. Staff turnover was high. Transparency and ethical conduct by the manager were questionable. The need for better cost control and better prioritization of spending to meet member needs was needed. A focus on personalized customer service and respect for members were lacking. The Club Board of Directors replaced the failing General Manager, added a young and well-liked PGA professional, improved the quality of the food and customer service. They also offered highly discounted memberships to new members that resulted in 100 new members for the new 2020 season. The Board of Directors are directing the new General manager to create mission and vision statements as a new beginning to a new strategic plan.
