1. Overfishing takes short-term self interest against the common good. It provides an opportunity for an individual to benefit oneself while spreading out the negative effects throughout the greater population.

2. The overuse of antibiotics leading to antibiotic resistant bacteria can be extremely harmful, leading to the possibility of serious illnesses, longer recovery time, and more expensive treatment. Preventative and more comprehensive health care would possibly help in order to reduce the overuse and misuse of antibiotics.

Why do you agree with Ismael

a) Overfishing is an example of the tragedy of the commons in that as fisherman take more fish that agreed (even if it is one fish) and generally as fishing technology improves and the demand grows, the reproduction rate of the fish will decline, and if the decline is severe enough, then there will be no more fish.

b) Of all the tragedy of the common examples shown in the video, I believe the most important mentioned was the tragic effects of burning coal at plants to produce cheap energy. Although there are many benefits to this that the video mentioned, such as it being cheap to consumers, coal is relatively easy to extract for the companies that do so, as well it is cost efficient for the companies to manufacture. However, the huge downside is the burning of coal producing sulfur and a main source of Co2 emissions, in which if it continues at the rate it does, it will result in a huge "tragedy" - hence climate change. We are already seeing the effects of climate change from the raging storms, heat waves and intense cold fronts, which are only going to get worse if the air pollution problem isn't dramatically fixed.
