After tallying up my answers to the entrepreneurial self-assessment survey, my total was 82. I've had dreams of being an entrepreneur since before I even knew there was a word for it. However, after reading this week's material and taking the survey I found that it caused me to have an introspective look at myself. Do I really possess the characteristics of an entrepreneur? Entrepreneurs identify things that are not being met in their corner of the market and develop a plan to provide a service to meet those needs (Williams, 2020). In my case, my wife and I have a passion for adventure and photography but when we were getting married we realized that the majority of the wedding industry focuses on formal events so we developed an idea to start an adventure wedding photography company. We would be acting as lifestyle entrepreneur's by combining our love for adventure and photography with an entrepreneurial endeavor that we're passionate about(Williams, 2020).
I'm not necessarily surprised by the score I received; I have always seen myself as creative, persistent, resilient, flexible, and have had a passion for something that I could cultivate into a source of income (Williams, 2020). Additionally, I would prefer to be "my own boss" even if that meant I was responsible for the success and failures of my business. I want to open an adventure wedding photography business with my wife as a general partnership. We would travel around the country or world providing imagery of a couple's destination elopement. It would allow us to travel to the places we want while using our passion to make a living. In my imagination, I see this business staying relatively small since its just the two of us. With us taking on no more than 100 clients a year and grossing $500k per year. The advantage of us forming a general partnership would be that the two of us would share everything 50/50, the liability, profit, and management duties. None of the burdens of running a business would fall on one more than the other because we would equally be involved and responsible (Williams, 2020). This week's material allowed me to sit down and actually think about some of the specifics of the dream I have for my future.
