I scored a 71 on the Entrepreneurial Self-Assessment Survey. The score indicates I have satisfactory ability to be an entrepreneur.

I am not surprised by the score. It reflects accurately on how I see myself. I enjoy the sense of security of being an employee for an organization, but I believe I have potential to be a successful entrepreneur.

If I started a business, it be either in mobile application development or in firearms. I would envision application development in the form of mobile games or a business in firearms sales. For either endeavor, I would not want the company to grow larger than 10-12 employees. That decision could change over time, but in the beginning, I would place a priority of control over that of revenue, even if it would appear slow or inefficient.

The legal form of business best suited to my imagined business is a sole proprietorship. When starting a business, I would want to avoid as many additional costs as possible. Linda Williams, author ofIntroduction to Business, describes a sole proprietorship as the simplest legal structure of a company and that as the complexity of business ownership rises, so do the associated costs (Williams, n.d.). For instance, I would not wish to have a complicated and cumbersome tax preparation to worry about when starting a business. The U.S. Small Business Administration lists easy tax preparation as an advantage to a sole proprietorship (2015). I would still be required to make quarterly tax payments. The Internal Revenue Service declares this says this is required because employer would not be withholding the taxes for me (2020).
