Read through the case study and write about 500-700 words

Like many organizations, Major League Baseball has decided to stand with the BLM movement, and countless other social justice causes. MLB and their teams have shown this support with supportive signage in stadiums, digital video content, and alterations to pre-game ceremonies. In addition, the Minnesota Twins Baseball Club decided to remove a memorial to former owner Calvin Griffith due to his documented prejudiced attitudes and racist remarks. Griffith, who moved the team from Washington D.C. to Minnesota in 1961, once said about the move, Ill tell you why we came to Minnesota. It was when I found out you only had 15,000 Blacks here its unbelievable. We came here because youve got good, hardworking white people here.

You are the Game Events Manager for the Minnesota Twins. You control any pre-game, in-game, and post-game ceremonies or recognition. You can also influence stadium signage and other marketing activation efforts. What do you do, and why? The local media already plans to interview you about the current approach, so be ready to speak with them. What do you say, how do you use any possible publicity? In this Case Study, address the impact of Social Justice on two (2) important aspects:

  • Media Relations
  • Marketing

Let the initial prompt guide your paper, but here are a few questions to consider:

  • No matter how much support an organization has for a decision or how moral the cause, there will be pushback from different stakeholders. How do you deal with that pushback?
  • If the organizations stance is truly to support social justice and the BLM movement, how do you use the media to your benefit? How do you advance the cause by removing a monument or any of your alterations?
  • Additionally, there is certainly an element of marketing at play in this decision. Do the Twins make this move without the emotional and financial support of their fans? Many organizations have been chastised for their opportunistic support of the causes, and finally doing the right thing. How do you show your support is genuine?

Once again, take your cues from what other sports leagues and events have done, and the feedback they received. Use some of their ideas, or learn from their mistakes. Use academic sources (i.e., academic journal articles) to support your decisions and logical argument.
