RECENT DEVELOPMENTS ASSIGNMENT
To assist in the integration and application of topics presented in lectures and the textbook, students are required to provide written comments about two articles appearing in recent periodicals. More specifically, students are to make critical, insightful comments about something they recently read pertaining to the general topic of this course. This means a simple summary of the article is not satisfactory. I would like to see your original thoughts and critical comments. To receive a good grade on these papers, you should do the following.
The report must be typewritten, not to exceed two doublespaced pages in length. Pages should be numbered if you have more than one page. Do not include a title page. Names should be located in the upper left hand corner of the first page of the assignment. The paper must be handed in at the beginning of class on the assigned day.
You must include a complete and legible copy of the article on which you are reporting, Be sure to provide an actual copy of the article, rather than just the link for the article.
You must clearly reference the source of your article using the following format. This reference should be at the beginning of the paper.
Last name, given names of author or authors Year "Name of Article," Name of Periodical, Volume # Month and Day page #s
Articles must be from sources no older than two months prior to the beginning of this semester.
The report must contain your own original thoughts on the topic. This means that I want to see more than a summary of your article. Give your opinion about the article and reasons you feel the way you do If you can't come up with any good thoughts about an article, you probably don't have a good article, so choose another one.
The article must relate to class and you should relate the article to our class in your paper.
The first paper should be based on an article from the popular press, such as magazines, newspapers, or the Internet.
The second paper should be based on an article from an academic journal. These articles are easily found in our library by physically going there or by accessing its electronic data bases. Google Scholar and the Auraria Library link are good places to find the academic articles. Be sure your academic article includes data collection and analysis. If you have any questions whether your article would be appropriate or not, be sure to ask.
