3.1. Tasks required to implement the innovation

Briefings are a prepared meeting given by the manager prior to service commencing to facilitate open communication between management and employees who work under them or/and under their supervision. It is a daily/each shift routine and the attendance of all employees is crucial as it can involve discussions about problems that can be encountered during service, establishing roles and tasks that need to be completed during service, or reflecting on the performance as a whole. In which a briefing is as its name brief, it is meant to be held as a short simple (Relevantly effective) meeting. This is done so all those who are involved are not overloaded with information at once. This is to ensure regular communication is upheld, allows employees to prepare and navigate their way through obstacles, also prioritise their tasks and shift time to a more effective manner. In order to implement the innovation within the organisation, training must be conducted. It is vital to provide training to the staff who will be conducting the briefings. Aguinis 2009, Kraiger et al. 1993 (as cited in Aguinis & Kraiger 2008) mentioned that training allows for declarative knowledge where employees are aware of what is going to take place, and procedural knowledge where employees will learn how to utilise the new skills that will be absorbed. After completing training, management will then be able to delegate members who will be in charge of conducting briefings.

3.2. Resources required for the innovation

As it would be beneficial to promote the way we have executed this practice, further investigation of tasks and resources required to accompany this set plan for the organisation is necessary.

Departments such as the back of house, includes the kitchen and bar staff. A spreadsheet of stock is provided during a briefing, this allows great communication between staff as they all know what is available to them and what resources can potentially be ordered during the week. Other resources include, whiteboards that are used to plan out what duties are needed for the service period ahead as well as a delegation of who is completing what tasks. Whiteboards are an easily accessible communication resource that allows employees and leaders to avoid miscommunication and prevent mistakes. Whilst the team leader is writing and contributing to the whiteboard schedule for the service period, this is the time that refreshments of food and drink is shared between the workers. The approach of these refreshments allow a comfortable and sociable work environment. These may include new dishes that the head chef is triling out as he values his staff's opinion. Due to this, menus are distributed as a discussion of what to add, subtract or alter. These resources accompany a great management plan for all organisations to implement briefings into their workplace schedule.
