Hello everyone, my name is Errick, | am currently pursuing my degree in criminal justice in hopes of transitioning out of the air force and into federal law enforcement such as the FBI once | obtain my degree during my time in service. | am currently stationed at Kadena AB Okinawa, Japan. So far been enjoying all the beach days and everything in between that the island has to offer. | have no preference in to what to referred to as, a simple "hey Errick/Romero\" is all well and fine to me. This is not my first class taken here with UMGC, and this is certainly not my last class that | will be taking at UMGC. As far as expectations go, | have no set bar as far obtaining the knowledge to understand the effects and distinctions when it comes to digital media in our everyday life and beyond. Part 2: Topic 1 Digital Media While | may mostly agree with Professor Turkle's opinion on learning while multitasking, it can not go without pointing out that there are individuals far and wide that are able to multitask better than there peers who can only adjust, adapt, overcome one thing at a time. Yes it is possible to learn while multitasking while simultaneously using digital media, however this group of individuals that are able to perform this way does not surpass or outweigh there peers that can not. | myself for example can only learn doing on thing at a time especially when it comes to digital media, | can not grasp and retain any kind of educational material if | find myself consistently switching between what's going on in front of me in the classroom and viewing what is going on in my phone or computer. Topic 2 Digital Media's Impact on Society The internet since it's inception has forever changed the way mass communication is brought about in today's modern era, but ever evolving technological society. Unlike traditional media such as radios, televisions, and newspapers, the internet has proven the capability to rapidly deliver urgent and pressing current events issues right at the hands of the people. Nowadays with the general population around the world having access to cellphones, anyone can communicate important social news onto social media platforms such as tiktok, Instagram, and twitter to name a few, and the news that gets passed along spreads like wildfire to the global population connected by the internet. "Traditional media companies have had to evolve to adapt to the changes wrought by the Internet revolution, but these media are far from obsolete in an online world. For example, social media can provide a very inexpensive and reliable model for maintaining a band's following." Topic 3 Digital Future In Anderson and Rainie, "Digital Life in 2035", | found "Building Better Spaces", to be the most hopeful theses. As technology advances and social media expands through all electronic platforms, a sense of community driven connection is bound to occur over time as people from all across the world become connected through the use of social media.
