REPLY TO THIS CLASSMATE ON THE DISCUSSION THREAD WITH 100 WORDS

Hello Professor Markley and Class,

Coming into a failing project is never easy and often times when something is failing morale is a huge part of it. With that being said the first of the main three actions I would take to ensure the projects success would be to have a kickoff meeting. In the kickoff meeting I would first start with getting to know each other and what each persons hobbies and lives outside of work consist of. I would try to break the ice with some type of table top exercise to get people loosened up a bit so we can all feel a little more comfortable. The second action I would take would be to clearly identify what the project is and the mission and vision of the project. I would make sure the mission of the project is very clear and the expectations of all the team members is very clear and understood. In doing this I would also explain to each team member there is a reward for everyone involved if the project is successful, and this would be based on determining what the team members like and their hobbies. The third action I would take is to identify there is only one project manager and who the team members are and what their roles are going to be. Involved in this portion would also be regular team meetings to make sure the mission and vision are being adhered to and use adaptive leadership to change and alter the plan as needed. During team meetings I would also incorporate some type of fun activity once a month to get people not just working together but also playing together to build stronger bonds.

The actions I have listed above suggest I would be using legitimate power, informational power and relational power. I would be using legitimate power by using the authority I have by my position to get other to adhere to the mission and vision I set. I would be using informational power by having team meetings and sharing information while also using adaptive leadership to also change what is needed based on results we are getting. I would be using relational power by getting people together to have fun activities and not just all work to build better relationships amongst the team members. I think it may increase the chances of success if I don't force people to come to the fun activities outside of work time because if they don't want to be there it will show and bleed over to the people that do want to be there.

I believe the type of negotiation my actions suggest are a win-win negotiation. I believe the win-win is shown by the organization getting people who want to come to work and support the mission, and the team members get to be rewarded for their hard work to support the organization. I believe I could improve my chances of success if I made sure to find over time what makes the team members tick, and reward them in a way that matters to them. This will take time for some to open up and share, and effort on my part to really listen actively.
