To start this discussion, I'm going to tell y'all some things about me. First off, my name is Nathan Hodges. I'm from a small town called East Prairie, Missouri, where around 3000 people live. Shortly after high school, I joined my local community college where I planned to get my degree in accounting. After taking some of the classes, I soon found out that I hated it. During that first semester, I lost my dad, who was my support system, so I finished out the semester (not so well). I then took a job doing tire work on tractors, where I worked for years. After not feeling like I got the recognition and respect I deserved, I went back to college looking to further my learning and follow in my dad's footsteps. My father was a cop my entire childhood, who worked himself through law school, driving every weekend to Lansing, Michigan, from Southeast Missouri. However, I'm not trying to get my law degree only because of my dad, I genuinely want to help people who may not have a voice, I want to serve a purpose in this world. Without law and order, we would be a chaotic country. I hope I can learn some of the effective police methods throughout the semester, and hear from others who are interested in the same fields and also are in this field to help others. I think this class will give me a better understanding of what policing methods are effective and ineffective, and I can carry this with me throughout my career in Law and use this information to potentially help others in the future.
