As with every organization, the Marine Corps has many unwritten rules and norms that affect the organizational culture day in and out. For example, one unwritten norm is proper grooming standards time frame dictated by policy in our orders and regulations. Our order is written in a manner that outlines the proper grooming standards for males and females but does not explicitly state when to receive the proper haircut. Because of this, its common practice to receive a fresh haircut every week to maintain proper grooming standards for males. Based on the way the order was written, it is common for Marines to receive some type of counseling if they don't come in with some fresh haircut to look within the proper hair regulations for males. This ties into the appearance and standards we hold at every level for the organization.
