The Theory of Reciprocity is when people are rewarded for their good actions and punished for their wrong actions. This theory explains that people are evaluated by their intentions and purpose in doing something for someone. An example of the Theory of Reciprocity is, let's say your best friend helps you move to your new apartment, then she asks you to watch her kids so she can go on a date with her husband. Right away, you will be obligated to say yes to her, even if you had other commitments to complete. Since she was there when you needed her, you will think twice before saying now. A project manager has to offer many things regarding a task-related exchange, position-related exchange, inspiration-related, and relationship-related exchange. A project manager uses the task-related exchange to persuade his employees that if they meet the end of the month's goal, they will be rewarded or a well-known reward. They also use it to convince people to support their projects financially. They also use the project-related exchange to promise an employee her position to achieve or complete a specific task. They can even offer their employees cash rewards if the actual numbers are met by the deadline. Then inspiration-related exchange can focus on keeping track of the one-on-one performance of the existing project and what method works better. Finally, for relationship-related exchange, a project manager promises a particular reward now or in the future for a task that has already been completed. These are the ways a project manager can use the exchanges.
