Due: by 48 hours before our Week 5 class begins Value: 10% of your grade for the course
Purpose
The main objective of this assignment is to get you to practice writing a proposal for those occasions in your career when your livelihood depends on documenting a pitch and submitting it to a client, funding body (e.g., the government or an NGO), or investors. This will also set you up for the recommendation report you write for Report 4: Recommendation (Group Manuscript), which will be the basis for your Report 3: Progress (Group Email) assignment.
Scenario
Youre an employee in a companythe same you were working for in the scenario for Report 1: Information Email. Following up on your documentation of the problems described in that information email, your manager verbally signals interest in hearing what solutions you had in mind to solve the problems you identified. Since this is going to involve some expense, your manager wants to see your proposed solutions documented and costed out in a proposal memo.5. Write a six-part proposal by replacing Memo message with the following sections:
i. Opening paragraph (untitled) between 50 and 100 words in length:
a. Use AIDRA marketing message organization to capture the readers
attention with an opening hook regarding the problem that your
proposal seeks to solve.
b. Emphasize the main benefit or selling feature of your solution and what
impact it will have in the workplace or on the employer.
ii. Background paragraph of 70-140 words:
a. Begin with the subheading 1. Background(left justified) in bold with
your paragraph starting on the line immediately below it.
b. Sketch out the history of the problemi.e., how it came to be.
c. Explain the goals of the solution project in terms of how it must address
the workplaces and employers needs.
iii. Proposed Plan:
a. Begin with the subheading 2. Proposed Plan(left justified) in bold
with your introductory sentence on the line immediately below it.
b. Introduce the parts of the plan with a sentence that ends with a colon.
c. Include three subsection paragraphs, each with an appropriate
subsection heading in bold, left-justified, and ending with a period or colon followed by the first sentence of the paragraph on the same line like those on p.2 of the textbooks sample proposal (Meyer,2020, p.436). In each paragraph, propose a solution to each aspect of the problem as you itemized it in Report 1, explaining the methodology of each and how progress will be monitored, including with progress and recommendation reports (which, in this course, are called Report 3 and Report 4 respectively, but dont call them these in your fictional scenario).
d. Include a timeline for completion in the solution to each problem, as well as the progress report with the actual Report 3 due date and recommendation report with the actual Report 4 due date (see this courses Weekly Schedule), as well as (fictional) dates of completion for various implementation milestones and full project completion.
e. Make it 70-140 words per paragraph, plus a timeline table setting out a reader-friendly schedule with a column of deliverables and milestones, as well as a column of deadlines given as months (spelled out) and dates like in the sample proposal in the Week 3 lecture PowerPoint based on this courses previous textbook (Guffey et al.,2019, p.183).
