Research Project - Read and summarize a statistical article on nursing

Overview

Statistics is prevalent everywhere, and we see the use of statistics in the nursing field as well. One reason it is important for us to understand statistics is so we can determine the validity of clinical studies, or other experiments done that may impact our jobs, procedures, and health of our patients.

Instructions

For this project, please search for an article in nursing that involves some level of statistical analysis. Here is what is expected:

  1. Select your article, provide a link so your article can be accessed.
  2. Read the article and provide a summary of the article and any research done.
  3. Look at the statistics used in the article. What was the research question (hypothesis)? What parameter would be of interest in this study (population mean, population proportion, population standard deviation, etc.) What was the statistical test run in analysis? (Did they run a regression analysis, Z-test, T-test, ANOVA, etc.)
  4. put apa 7 format REFERENCE

Article Title:

Awareness and Knowledge of Cervical Cancer and its Prevention Among the Nursing Staff of a Tertiary Health Institute in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India.

Summary:

Carcinoma of the cervix is the most common cancer amongst Indian Women, but the awareness of this cancer is very low. A sample of 100 nurses were interviewed to assess their current knowledge base of the symptoms and risk factors of cervical carcinoma. The researchers looked at the percentage of nurses that understood the key symptoms, risk factors, and preventative measures of cervical carcinoma, and concluded the current understanding of cervical cancer should be improved. Continuing education can aid in the cervical cancer screening programs and help treat and prevent the disease in the future.

The main research question was:

What is the current knowledge level regarding symptoms, risk factors, prevention, and screening of cervical carcinoma amongst nursing staff?

The parameter of interest in this study is the population proportion. The researcher is using a sample of 100 nurses to estimate this proportion

The researcher ran a Z-test to determine if any of the symptoms, risk factors, or preventative measures were found to be statistically significant. An alpha value of 0.05 was used as a threshold
