Before you begin writing, you need to choose a topic and develop a debatable thesis that you can support with credible sources. This proposal is a way for you to start generating ideas and formulating questions you may want to deal with in your paper. This is not yet an outline of your paper. Instead, it is designed to help you explore your topic, figure out what you need to research and what ideas will go into your argument. Your proposal should be 2 to 3 pages long (at least two FULL pages) and answer the following questions: o What is the topic? What do you know about the topic so far? o Why have you chosen this topic? Explain how you've gotten to this topic and what about it interests you. o Is your topic relevant? Why? Who is it relevant to? o Is your topic narrow and debatable? Does it need to be further narrowed to meet the 7-8 page requirement? o What question(s) do you want to address? o Do you have a possible position (thesis)? What is it? o What are some of the main points you could use to support your position? o What sort of information do you think you'll need to find through your research?
