Question:
Research suggests that there is no recipe for developing trustworthy leadership and that “leader development is an inside job that requires character development” . Trust is just one component of a leader’s credibility, and a leader must build trust and expertise, as these two go hand in hand. The author also gives us the following practices for cultivating trustworthy relationships:
1. Become skillful in leading others.
2. Learn how to speak with and listen to associates.
3. Know your values and act with integrity.
4. Think “win-win” as much as possible.
5. Be authentic and human; you don’t have to be perfect.
6. Seek respect, not friendship, from your subordinates.
7. Trust others a bit more; control them less.
Although these are all important, select at least two practices and explain why they are important; provide examples.
