- Title
Speech Anxiety
- Summary
The video I've chosen talks about tips in changing your mindset about public speaking in order to help with anxiety. Some tips to remember before public speaking is to remember that is completely normal to be nervous before your speech. The nerves are only temporary and slowly alleviate during the time you are speaking. A healthy mindset to have before a speech is to remember that you will do a great job during your public speaking regardless of what you may think you look like. While on the inside you may be feeling anxious, your demeanor will say otherwise because of the way your presentation will follow. Maintaining a healthy mindset before the speech will also affect your behavior and will ensure an outstanding performance.
- Helpful to Others
If you have any anxiety leading up to the presentation, I believe this video can help change your mind set about how to prepare. Being well prepared and planning how to read your speech indicates you have assembled an effective presentation. According to McLean (2018), the tone, volume, and pitch of your voice influence how your words will be interpreted. Keeping all of these tips in mind while practicing for the final presentations will lead to a successful speech. In the video he includes several other tips (with examples) that I believe will assist anyone to becoming more confident for their presentation.
- Helpful to Self
For myself, I plan to follow the video and change my mind set before preparing for my speech. I am self-conscious of how my voice may sound but I need to remember that it may not sound bad to my audience. As long as I am mindful of the speed I speak in I think this will also help with my tone of voice. I want to sound clear and firm with my presentation and if I create a healthy mind set going into the speech I believe I will be sufficient. A positive takeaway that I am reminded from the video is that my audience wants me to do well. Remembering this throughout the speech will help me feel confident about the information I am saying and will display my presentation better.
