1) I would begin by educating the board and hospital staff about QI. I think many people have a negative connotation for anything QI. Maybe they associate it with job changes, more hoops to jump through or something else negative. I would stress that QI is going to be a positive thing for the hospital and being used to help each other with their jobs. I would try and gather success stories of other companies who have used QI to their benefit. I would stress QI is going to begin by looking at processes and costs so that hopefully this could be streamlined as needed to save the staff time and money. It would also be beneficial to show Medicare guidelines for organizations that utilize a QI program and how process have improved, errors have decreased, costs have come down and work load has become more efficient. I would also try to get members of each department or team involved in the QI program so that everyone feels they can have a say in any changes.

2) The support for quality improvement from board and physicians can be managed carefully by taking all the parties in confidence. The following are some of the measures I can do to get their support. As the physicians are against bureaucratic red-tapism, I will try to fetch the ideas from them to improve the quality because the physician is well versed with modern medical education and the latest medical technology. We can take the board members with us while traveling for the next conference or any such seminar. I will make sure the community becomes aware of the need for quality improvement, and such a pressure group can help to get our aim fulfilled. I will put some statistics about our institute and compare it with one of the other institutions which have improved quality and better motility and morbidity results.
