In order to answer this I am going to depict which agency will look at each piece of evidence then give a brief explanation on what those agencies do. After the evidence has been properly collected and stored the police will ensure the evidence is handed to the right agencies. First the note written by the victim will be looked at by the forensic unit specially the one that looks at documents. The note would be analyzed in several ways, matching the handwriting to the victims handwriting ensuring it has not been forged. The note has to be looked at to ensure there has been no foul play like the victim was forced into writing the note. The weapon that was used at the scene would be evaluated by a fingerprint analyst department because there were faint fingerprints left on the weapon. The examiner would pull the prints found on the weapon then would be later turned into the police to see if that person's fingerprints match those of the victim or if they were someone else's. They would do this by using various ways. For example dusting the weapon to pick up any prints. Finally the victims hands will be looked at because of the forensic evidence found under them. The department in charge of this would be DNA analysis to proerly collect the evidence from the victims fingernails which was said to be traces of blood and skin.
