Responses: Fact-finding can provide a solid basis for conducting analyses, forming some sort of conclusion, helps generate options and can help formulate great recommendations. While the investigation is on- going, work should go on as usual. There are six steps that can be followed for fact-finding. (Aselstine, 2013) 1. Go to the Source- do your research on existing policies/procedures and unwritten rules/practices. Begin to understand how these effect the issue at hand. Record your findings. 2. Stay objective-Focus on the facts- not others opinions 3. Be persistent- If not receiving the information needed, get to the bottom of why. Get what you came for. 4. Do not get paralyzed- separate the information needed from what is not needed. Follow the facts but stay within the mandated guidelines while investigating. Compartmentalize the facts gathered and dig more into the facts that pertain more to the issue at hand. 5. Do not assume- Never assume! Always confirm your facts multiple times. Everything must be accurate. 6. Have a plan and follow it- Develop a plan and think it through. When you have figured out what is needed and whom you need to speak with, finding the facts should progress smoothly. As these facts come to light, there may need to be a time when you have to branch out and connect with new or additional resources. Always remember your plan and stick with it. (Aselstine, 2013)
