Question: Rewrite the letter without repeating the same sentences in a new email: Write an email responding to Michelle (see letters below) explaining what I do

Rewrite the letter without repeating the same sentences in a new email:

Write an email responding to Michelle (see letters below) explaining what I do need since I am pursuing internship or practicum on my own through job searches and continuing my education for trauma. I do not want a zoom meeting. I just need the statement (see letter from Michigan).

Hi Michelle,

Thank you for your response and willingness to assist in clarifying the program's details. I understand the need for more specific information to communicate effectively with the state, and I appreciate your offer to discuss this matter directly with a state representative.

As I currently do not have a direct Michigan contact for this situation, could you help by providing a document or letter that outlines the rationale behind the absence of a practicum in the program? Additionally, the state is requesting a narrative explanation for why the practicum was not an integrated part of the master's degree program, which suggests that more detailed context about the program design would be helpful.

If you could provide further insights or a formal statement about the program's structure and goalsparticularly why the experiential components like a practicum or internship are not includedit would greatly aid in addressing the state's questions. A detailed letter explaining that I have completed the master's program and offering these clarifications would be very useful.

Thank you again for your cooperation and support. I look forward to resolving this matter with your help.

While I understand what you are asking, I think they may be only requesting a rationale because they currently believe we have a program that supports licensure which we do not. We do not need a rationale for no practicum in a generalist program. Would it be helpful if you and I met on Zoom?

With appreciation,

Thank you for contacting the Bureau of Professional Licensing.

You mention the Michigan Board of Counseling but you're asking about a Psychology license which is a separate board. Have you reviewed the Master's Limited Psychologist Licensing Guide/Master's Limited Psychologist-Temporary Licensing Guide or the Psychology Frequently Asked Questions? They should answer many questions you could have regarding our licenses.

All requirements listed in the licensing guide must be met including receiving completed forms. If you did not complete a 500 hour practicum as part of your master's program, you would need to get the Temporary Limited license (TLLP) first. Please see review the following regarding the practicum:

Per R 338.2561 (1)(c) A post-degree practicum may be approved by the board if the practicum is through an accredited institution that satisfies the standards adopted under R 338.2529(1) or (2) of the Board of Psychology - General Rules and completed for academic graduate credit. The post-degree practicum must not be implemented before the board has approved it.

A written, narrative request to the board for approval of a post master's degree practicum must include, at a minimum, the following information:

  1. An explanation of the reason the practicum was not an integrated part of a master's degree program.
  2. Why a practicum is being pursued post-degree instead of as an integrated part of the master's degree program.
  3. The name and address of the accredited institution offering the proposed practicum.
  4. The responsibilities the practicum requires.
  5. When the practicum is to take place and the hourly time commitment.
  6. How the practicum is to be supervised and by whom.
  7. The demographic makeup of the geographic area where the practicum is to take place.
  8. Whether others have utilized the practicum provider.

In addition, be sure to include the following:

The practicum requires not less than 500 clock hours of psychological work.

You must be supervised by a psychologist that is licensed in this state, eligible for licensure in this state, or licensed or certified at the independent practice level in the state where the practicum took place.

You must meet in-person or via 2-way real-time audiovisual technology that allowed direct, contemporaneous interaction by sight and sound between the supervisor and the supervisee for a minimum of 2 hours a week during the practicum.

In order to submit the request to the board, you MUST qualify for licensure PRIOR to a request being submitted to the board. This means you MUST apply for TLLP licensure AND have ALL documents and fingerprints submitted before we can send a request to the board. Forms and licensing guides can be found on www.michigan.gov/psychology.

Lastly, you must gain 2,000 hours of post-master's experience in an organized healthcare setting before you can get the Master's Limited License. Supervision must be under a licensed psychologist.

Subject: Request for Program Structure Statement

Hi Michelle,

Thank you for your understanding and willingness to assist with this matter. I am currently pursuing an internship or practicum independently through job searches to continue my education in trauma. To address the state's requirement, I need a formal statement from the program that explains the structure, specifically regarding the absence of a practicum or internship in the master's degree program.

Your assistance in providing a document or letter that outlines the reasoning behind the program's design, emphasizing why experiential components like a practicum were not included, would be invaluable. The state has requested a narrative to address these specifics, so any insights or information you could provide regarding the program's goals and structure would be greatly appreciated.

I am looking to avoid a Zoom meeting at this time, so if this information could be communicated in writing, it would be most helpful. The goal is to present a clear rationale to the Michigan board to satisfy their licensing requirements.

Thank you again for your support and cooperation. I look forward to your response.

Best regards,

Carrie Makinen
