RFID System Implementation and Process Optimization $at$ TygaSmart

This project analyzes a real$-$world process $at$ TygaSmart, a company operating $in$ the moving and technology industry. The process involves the implementation $ofan$ RFID tracking system for plastic moving boxes, consisting $of$ three workstations:

Workstation $1$: Four employees clean and stack boxes $(30$ high$).$

Workstation $2(Bottleneck)$: Three employees tag each box with $an$ RFID tag and $anNFC$ label. This step $is$ time$-$consuming, averaging $1$Flow diagram:

START minutes and $12$ seconds per box. Variability arises from the time $it$ takes $to$ retrieve boxes from the stack and identify the correct side for tagging. This variability $is$ influenced $by$ the physical nature $of$ the task, with some workers handling the workload more efficiently than others.

Workstation $3$: Two employees commission the boxes $in$ the cloud using a fob, with data displayed $on$ a computer via a gateway.

The bottleneck $at$ Workstation $2$ leads $to$ queue formation, causing delays and idle time $at$ Workstation $3as$ workers wait for boxes $tobe$ processed.

The $sensitivity$ analysis will focus $on$ reducing the processing time $at$ Workstation $2.By$ simulating different scenarios, $we$ will evaluate how shorter tagging times impact key performance metrics such $as$ queue lengths, workstation utilization, and overall system throughput.

$We$ propose pre$-$identifying the side with the easy$-$peel placard $in$ Workstation $1to$ address the bottleneck. This adjustment will enable workers $at$ Workstation $2to$ tag boxes without handling each one individually. Instead, RFID tags and $NFC$ labels can $be$ applied while the boxes remain stacked $30$ high, significantly reducing processing time $by60\%.$
